Voter-id Registration

Report on voter ID Registeration 0n 28th & 29th July 2017

The Department of International Studies and History, Vrittanta; association of undergraduate students, in collaboration with the State Election Commission of Karnataka, held a special camp for registering young and eligible students as voters. This special camp was held on the 28th &29th of July 2017 from 11:00am to 4:00pm in front of Block 1, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore. The camp was originally planned for a day but the enthusiasm, response and rush to register necessitated the extension of camp to next day.

The camp was to enable and equip the students of our college who reside in Karnataka with Voter ID cards for the coming and future elections.

The camp was a brainstorm of Dr. Venugopal Menon, head of department of International Studies and History, along with Dr. Anurag Tripathi, faculty coordinator of Vrittanta.

Four officials: Mr. Srinivas, revenue inspector, Mr. Selva Kumar, tax inspector, Mr. Suresh, asst. revenue officer and Mr. Parshuram, tax inspector of the State Election Commission were on campus manning the registration desk and patiently answering all queries.

The volunteers who helped the entire camp go smoothly were Joshin James, Bhavya AG, Rusha Gupta, Agraj Parashar, Ryan Varela, Harsimran Singh Sondhi, Amrith Vishnu, Apoorvi Mishra and Sabareesh Anil.

The highlight of the camp was the huge turn up of more than 1000 students who wished to register themselves as voters. Students came not only from the Central campus, but also a handful from the Bannerghata as well as the Kengeri campus. Faculty as well as house keeping staff were enthused by the stalls and partook in registration.

The success of the camp proves to us that the youth are eager to know more about their voting rights and exercise them properly. We must use this response by having similar camps in our college for better participatory democracy and to help spread political education amongst the citizens of tomorrow.
